Kids Furniture
Buying kids furniture can be very tricky, as there’s a wide range of choice out there. First and foremost, the furniture for your kid’s rooms needs to be practical and easy to clean. It should also be colourful and possibly have a theme that you kids will love, too. If you invest in kids furniture wisely, you will easily end up with a room that will stand the test of time.
One of the main considerations when you plan to furnish a kids room is the bed. Beds can be decorative or have a lot of storage space. Your kids may grow out of novelty beds very quickly, so regular beds with drawers underneath are a very practical option. Alternatively, cabin or bunk beds can save space and so can be excellent kids furniture.
Work space is also important when considering kids furniture. Most kids of school age will be bringing home work from school and may have their own laptop. A desk is often considered an essential item of furniture for kids’ room, particularly if your children are older.
Another very important element when considering how to furnish a kids room is storage space. Your child will accumulate colourful pieces of plastic like they are going out of fashion. If you don’t fancy the living room or the rest of the house being taken over by your kids’ figurines and games, you’re going to need a lot of boxes that can fit oddly shaped items. Also, it’s a good idea to encourage your kids to read, so you’ll need space for books. A useful item of kids furniture is a bookcase or storage unit that can fit both books and large baskets or boxes of toys. Keeping clutter off the surfaces and floors is important in keeping your child’s room clean too – they’re unlikely to be bothered, though!
Another element of storage is storage for clothes. Furniture for a kids’ room should also include at least one wardrobe. You may have a running battle with your child about hanging up school shirts and folding jumpers neatly, but having an easily accessible wardrobe will definitely help your cause!
Kids furniture can be colourful and fun. However, if you want to stick to classic items of furniture that will still be attractive to your kids as they grow older, consider jazzing up your kids rooms with fun light fittings, posters, curtains, duvet covers and other items that are colourful but also easy to remove and replace as your children get older.
As your kids get older, they will have more interest in functional and cool furniture. Classic novelty kids furniture includes bean bags, inflatable chairs and lava lamps. Some children may also cope with a hamster or goldfish in their room too – but remember than the wellbeing of any critters in the house ultimately falls on your shoulders!
Finally, some would include a television and games console as essential kids furniture. Parents are divided on whether these should be included when you furnish a kids room. Perhaps one thing to remember is that they can be removed at the first sign of your kids losing sleep or watching anything age-inappropriate!
